Progress is “Cooking on Gas” for NEW Prime Development in Haywards Heath

Following our news feed on 26th March DMP are pleased to have received granted planning permission from Mid Sussex Council.

Specifically for the removal of existing shopfront, demolition of redundant WC/boiler accommodation to rear. Installation of a new shop front and side means of escape door on South Road, Haywards Heath.

DMP are acting on behalf of the landlord who owns a parade of commercial three-storey properties. One of which has been vacant since December 2020.

South Road is located to the south of the site. There are commercial properties to the east and west and a shopping centre located to the north of the site. The wider street scene consists of a mixture of two-storey and three-storey commercial properties. All characterised by a variety of external materials.

The Proposed Plans

It is proposed the existing ground floor front elevation is brought forward one metre and flush with the public highway. The idea is to remove the existing ingress and angled display shop front.

In addition, a side facing door will be at ground level to the east facing elevation providing egress from the upper parts.

An existing rear W/C, rear external concrete staircase, first floor air conditioning units and boiler room are to be demolished. The existing rear wooden fence is replaced with a new 1.8 metres high wooden fence.

Furthermore, the proposed internal works replace an existing staircase with an amended design DDA compliant straight flight.

All proposed works will be characterised by external materials that are similar in appearance to those used in the existing property.

The Architectural Technicians at DMP took careful consideration of the local guidance contained in the SPD ‘Mid Sussex Design Guide.’

The scale, form, design, position and materials for the proposed shopfront enhance the character and appearance of the street scene. The extended shopfronts and existing retail use ensures compliance of national and local policies and guidance.

As part of our brief, DMP undertook measured survey, prepared as existing and proposed planning drawings and supported the planning application with a detailed Planning, Design and Access Statement.  

Phase I of the works are progressing on site. With strip out of the property and demolition of the redundant structures to take place during the 6/8 week contract.
