Stanhope Arms Breathes Renewed Life As Planning Application is Submitted

Following on from our newsfeed on the 7th August and having completed the Building Survey, Measured and Topographical Survey of the vacant Stanhope Arms, Brasted, Kent, DMP have now developed detailed plans for internal alterations and extensions on behalf of the new freehold owner.

The new plans shall ensure the existing pub is retained in line with the property being registered as an asset of community value and provide enhanced drinking and eating environment including possible B&B accommodation.

Careful consideration has been taken throughout the design stage to establish a scheme development proposal to reach the planning phase. Specifically, in order to maintain existing historical building fabric. Including full respect of the adjoining Grade II* listed Church of St Martin.

An interesting fact

The medieval church is in the Domesday book and a grave was discovered in the church tower. In 12th and 13th century, windows were added together with an arcade in 13th century. Furthermore, there were 17th and 18th Century alteration with the church being rebuilt in 1865 by the celebrated Architect Alfred Waterhouse.

To point out, the church was sadly damaged during World War II, when it lost most of its glass. Then further damage by a fire in 1989 when largely the 19th and 20th Century architecture was lost. However this has painstakingly been restored and is now once again being enjoyed by the local community.

As you can see from our aerial images the Stanhope Arms is a substantial property and a fantastic community asset. DMP is working closely with our client and local planning department to breath a new lease of life into this historic building.
