Planning Successfully Granted for Victorian Villa in Ringmer, East Sussex

DMP are pleased to announce following on from our newsfeed on 29th July that Lewes District Council Planning Committee unanimously granted planning permission for the erection of an oak framed 3-bay garage, single storey copper clad extension with sedum roof and extensive internal alterations to a detached Victorian Villa style property in Ringmer, East Sussex.

The application had been ‘called in’ by the local Parish Council due to the contemporary nature of the proposed single storey side extension within the Ringmer Conservation Area however the Planning Officer and local members supported the proposal as through the skilful design of the new extension it respected the setting, old and new buildings which will be woven into the fabric.

As the property is located on the main road through the village, the design was supported by a Local Policy - ‘The most interesting streets in the urban and rural Conservation Areas include a variety of building styles, materials and forms of construction, built in many different historical periods. However, through the scale, height, massing, alignment, materials and landscaping the buildings harmonise into a pleasing group. New buildings, therefore, do not need to copy their neighbours in detail, providing they follow these architectural principles’.
