DMP Provide Multiple Services to School in Sevenoaks

DMP were contacted by an existing Client who were looking to undertake a programme of works to include Scheme Development and obtaining planning permission and listed building consent for a variety of projects at the West Heath School, Sevenoaks.

The Client Brief

The Client brief was to consider a series of capital projects over the next few years which DMP have helped guide and work with the school in reviewing to date. The projects would encompass a number of works including boundary treatments, new construction and renovation of existing swimming pool facility.

West Heath School offers term time boarding and the trustees felt that a positive addition to the campus would be most welcome to include a common room facility that could be used by the students to complete evening studies or provide a breakaway space.

The School Brief was to provide a common room of approximately 100sqm of space and looked to be located within the site close to the boarding rooms. The facility was to include computer space, break out space for games, recreational evening tasks and to match with the existing look and style of the school’s buildings.

The chosen site was positioned in the same location as a historic cricket pavilion and would look over the school building and surrounding grounds. Thought was put into the location of existing utilities services and ground conditions upon which the common room would be sited.

The DMP Solution

We were able to interpret the Client’s requirements, specifying speed and achieve all targets required. We drew up a proposed plan of the common room and applied to Sevenoaks district council with a planning application for a building sited within green belt land.

DMP attended a site meeting with the planning officer to discuss the proposed scheme as understandably there were some concerns over the location of additional buildings within the school grounds. The planning officer was able to appreciate the school as serving a purpose of special nature and that the proposed new building being of much needed use to the students.

DMP were granted planning permission for the new-build common room and are currently in the process of programming works ready for its construction.
